MockAPI Documentation

Everything you need to know about creating, managing, and consuming mock APIs with MockAPI. Build realistic API endpoints for development and testing without backend infrastructure.

Welcome to MockAPI

MockAPI is a platform that lets you design, build, and serve realistic mock APIs in minutes. Whether you need REST endpoints, GraphQL schemas, or both, MockAPI generates lifelike data so your frontend, mobile, or integration teams can work without waiting on backend services.

Start with the Quick Start guide to create your first project and endpoint in under 5 minutes.

Key Features

  • REST & GraphQL: Create mock endpoints for both REST and GraphQL APIs with full HTTP method support.
  • Smart Data Generation: 140+ property types powered by Faker.js with locale support for realistic mock data.
  • Import & Export: Import from OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman Collections, GraphQL SDL, or plain JSON.
  • Stateful REST & simulation controls: Persist CRUD data in DynamoDB, simulate rate limits and latency, switch scenarios per request, compare OpenAPI to your project, and automate with the Management API.
  • Team Collaboration: Invite team members, assign roles, and manage permissions per project.
  • API Playground: Test your mock endpoints directly from the dashboard with built-in request tooling.
  • Custom Domains: Serve mock APIs from your own domain with automatic SSL certificates.
  • Request Logging: Monitor every request with detailed logs, response times, and analytics.

How MockAPI Works

MockAPI follows a straightforward workflow:

  1. 1Create a Project: Projects are isolated workspaces that hold your models, endpoints, and configuration.
  2. 2Define Data Models: Models describe the shape of your data with typed properties. MockAPI uses these to generate realistic responses.
  3. 3Configure Endpoints: Create REST endpoints or GraphQL schemas, then map them to your models.
  4. 4Use Your API Key: Every project has a unique API key. Include it in your requests to authenticate and receive mock responses.
  5. 5Consume & Iterate: Call your mock API from any HTTP client, test in the Playground, and monitor with request logs.
